C. Kelly Wright, Robert Parsons, Michael A Shepperd et al. Set for TheatreWorks' Civil War Christmas

By: Tristan Fuge · Oct 27, 2009  · San Francisco Bay Area

TheatreWorks has announced casting for its production of Paula Vogel's A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration, set to play in the Lucie Stern Theater, December 2-27. Robert Kelley will direct.

Set in Washington in 1864, the show imagines figures from Abe Lincoln to Walt Whitman and their holiday celebrations, with Mary Todd Lincoln rushing to complete her Christmas shopping, Clara Barton tending wounded soldiers in a local hospital, a run-away slave girl separated from her mother in the bitter cold, and two generals on opposite sides of the Potomac.

The cast will feature Robert Parsons as Abraham Lincoln, Gary Martinez as General Ulysses S. Grant, Diana Torres Koss as Mary Todd Lincoln, Kit Wilder as John Wilkes Booth, Michael A. Shepperd as Decatur Bronson, and C. Kelley Wright as Elizabeth Keckley. Rounding out the cast are Tracy Camp, Cyril Jamal Cooper, Jayne Deely, Daveed Daniele Diggs, Myha'la Herrold, Ian Leonard, Elizabeth Palmer, Jonathan Shue, and Tiana Travis.
