Synopsis

The critically acclaimed and award-winning musical Fela! moves to Broadway!

This new musical, based on the life of groundbreaking African composer, performer and activist Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Bill T. Jones, with a book by Jim Lewis and Jones.

Sahr Ngaujah returns in the title role for which he received universal acclaim, while the world renowned Antibalas and other members of the NYC Afrobeat community, under the direction of Aaron Johnson, will again perform Kuti's rousing music live onstage. At certain performances, the role of Fela will be played by Kevin Mambo.

Winner of this year's Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, Fela! was conceived by Bill T. Jones, Jim Lewis and Steve Hendel.

In this revolutionary new musical, audiences are welcomed into the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Using his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), Fela! explores Kuti's controversial life as artist, political activist and revolutionary musician.

Rush tickets are available, during previews only (October 19 - November 23), at the box office two hours prior to curtain. Maximum two tickets per person. Each ticket is $27.00, cash only, and subject to availability.
